WW : gmail tricks

There are 2 tricks that work with Gmail (and possibly other email providers) to let you use one email address as though it were several different addresses.

1. Gmail lets you add “+something” to your mailbox name and still get your mail. For example, joe@gmail.com and joe+wordpress@gmail.com and joe+secretblog@gmail.com each look like different addresses to our system but they all route mail to the same inbox: joe@gmail.com.

2. You can reformat your existing Gmail address by inserting dots (periods) anywhere within your Gmail username. The Gmail Help pages explain:

Because Gmail doesn’t recognize dots as characters within usernames, adding or removing dots from a Gmail address won’t change the actual destination address. Messages sent to yourusername@gmail.com and y.o.u.r.u.s.e.r.n.a.m.e@gmail.com are all delivered to your Inbox, and only yours.

WW : Have you Stumbled?

StumbleUpon  http://banquet.stumbleupon.com/

Here’s some of the diverse sites I’ve stumbled in the last week or so …

http://scrapbook.com/resources.html - scrapbooking resource library

http://tools.visionmind.net/grader/ - grade your website - put in URL - get free report - easy - simple

http://www.divorcebusting.com/sample_book_chapters.htm - excellent resources for Divorce Busting by Michele Weiner-Davis.
Positive stuff. Solution-oriented Therapy. Sample chapters of her books.

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/1-awesome-gmail-tip-you-dont-know-about-seriously/ - how you can use the dot in your gmail address

http://www.woolworths.co.nz/HomeShopping/Shop.aspx - Shop online - or just be nosey and find out the price of groceries in New Zealand. Not the cheapest but convenient. Do an ITEM SEARCH .

http://www.freehousechurchresources.com/bibleversesorter.php - enter and click

StumbleUpon  http://www.stumbleupon.com/ - I’ve dumped my on-computer “Favourites” file in favour of Stumble Upon, with a toolbox for easy use. Can go looking for other other homeschoolers, lapbookers, whatever your interest.

Are you a Stumbler? What’s your address?

later,

Weblinks Wednesday : new friends

Must tell you of my two new best friends this year:

1.

http://www.libraryelf.com/

Check with your library that they are participants with library elf and make sure you have a password attached to your family’s library cards. We have one password and four cards of the different family members.

No more fines - hallejulah!

2.

 http://www.blogarithm.com/

All those blogs and interesting things that people write can be tracked and sent to the convenience of your own email box. I never cottoned on to the RSS feeds deal, despite my ever-patient computer geek-friends trying to clarify things for me.

I reckon any bunny can enjoy the ease of use of blogarithm. Sign up for free.

 3.

and one more link for good measure:

http://rachel-larkin.com/2007/11/13/our-creation-journals-notebooks/

We’ve started these too - called “Experiences” Books. (My little scientist DS8 got a bit muddled  with the word “Experiments” a couple of years ago.)

The Week

Mummy Monday
- to young children, home educating mothers

Tummy Tuesday
- recipes, healthy food

Weblinks Wednesday
links for anything that interests me - homeschool, migraines, creativity
- or maybe Wordless Wednesday? - a picture or photo

Thoughtful Thursday
- a question, a ponder …

Fellowship Friday
- friendships, organic church …

I do not promise to post every day every week, but I thought this could put a structure on my thinking and posting.

See you soon,
Johanna

Deciding which blogs or sites

Have ditched a few other blogs, wikis etc. My children have left homeschoolblogger and moved to www.kiwikids.tumblr.com - a much simpler setup they can use.

I also have www.lapbook.tumblr.com and the groups associated like www.appleslapbook.tumblr.com.

I dabbled with www.pbwiki.com but would rather use tumblr.

My husband has www.2restore.wordpress.com. I quite like working in wordpress - easy to use for a bunny like me.

Have established http://lapbooking.wordpress.com was http://lapbooking.bravehost.com. It’s been titivated and still being moved from bravehost.

My local home education support group is found at (a wordpress spawn): http://THEN.sunshineblogs.com

When I get more time!!! Meanwhile it’s first day of ’school’, so better look lively,
blessings all,
Johanna

Stumbling

Have been distracted by stumbleupon and neglected the blog!

http://banquet.stumbleupon.com

meeting a few homeschoolers there too …

well on the way through the third of four terms for this school year

and …

spring is coming!

Blessings,

Johanna

behind the title - Life’s A Weekend

DH’s work colleagues always rib him about ‘another holiday’. But I’ve taken to calling our weeks away (at Telecom/SevenAway flats) EOTC = Education Outside The Classroom - or field trips - sounds more educational [whatever that is].

When we started our home educating, having come from a teaching background, it was ‘natural’ for me to fall back into teachy ways, but after 3 years our timetable gets more flexible like a bungy cord and life is getting more like a permanent weekend - some chores, some reading, some activity, some games, some experiments.
